Safemind Foundation
Normalising mental health conversations in Africa through education, community, and support
A Message from Our Founder

"Everyone spoke to Tunde, but no one listened."
In my years as a mental health nurse in Nigeria, I witnessed a tragic story that changed everything. A young man named Tunde lost his father at 18 and carried his grief in silence. His family dismissed his pain as "behavior," never truly listening.
What started as untreated grief became substance use, then mental illness. By the time his family realized he wasn't "possessed" but sick, tragedy had already struck. This story, shared by Tunde's brother during a consultation, represents countless others across Nigeria where mental health stigma costs lives.
This is why I founded Safemind Foundation in April 2025 — to create a space where Nigerians can talk openly about mental health without fear of stigma. A place where, unlike Tunde, people are truly heard and supported, no matter how remote their location.

"To live is to cope and hope "
A mental health nurse, Ikechukwu leads a team of nurses and healthcare assistants in a complex neurological unit as a charge nurse. Safemind Foundation is born out of his immense desire to change the dismal picture of mental health in Africa. When you don’t see him on the hospital wards, he’s with his family, occasionally sneaking into this blog page to peddle words.

"What God cannot do does not exist "
A Registered Nurse and Registered Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse, which means I spend a good part of my life caring for people’s minds and bodies, but my mission doesn’t stop at the bedside. I also bring mental health to the spotlight as a Social Media Manager, using storytelling, strategy, and a sprinkle of heart to make well-being visible, relatable, and shareable. When I’m not managing care or content, you’ll probably find me singing my heart out, leading worship, or planning my next adventure. I love trying new things, exploring new cultures, and finding the beauty in both quiet moments and bold experiences. Whether online or offline, in scrubs or in song, my goal is always the same: to connect, uplift, and inspire. Let's just say that I believe in healing, both through care and creativity.
